Time for a toast!

The very last recipe for our upcoming cookbook has been written, photographed, cooked, checked, and sent to our layout designer. The book is about to be published! A good reason to bring out a toast. Plus it’s almost the 4th of July so all the more reason to fix ourselves a cocktail. No need to buy a cocktail set, just mix the ingredients in a glass. All recipes serve 1 and only take 1 to 2 minutes to make.

MOSCOW MULE

Former East Berlin, where I live, is still called Moscow by some West Berliners. On top of that, the Moscow Mule is an American cocktail invented in Tampa in the fifties. Therefore, this cocktail just had to be included in our cookbook. Put everything in a glass and serve.

1 part real good vodka
4 parts ginger ale
a few slices of lime
a sprig of mint
ice cubes or crushed ice

DARK & STORMY

Easy does it. Rum, ginger ale, and a squeeze of lemon in a glass with ice: that’s all there is to it.

1 part of good rum
4 parts ginger ale
1-2 slices of lemon
ice cubes or crushed ice

TOSSO ROSSO

This cocktail can be seen as the next big thing after the Hugo, a favorite drink on the terraces of Northern Italy and the rest of Europe, made with soda water instead of Campari.

1 part Campari
or other red vermouth
1 part (organic) elderflower syrup
3 parts Prosecco
a sprig of mint
ice cubes or crushed ice

HERBAL LIQUOR WITH LEMON & ICE

Schnapps is a popular after dinner drink in Berlin is, but often that’s a little too strong for me. You make me much happier with a herbal liquor like Averna – served on ice and with lime. Hardly a recipe, but still.

1 splash of herbal liquor like Averna
1-2 slices of lemon
ice cubes or crushed ice
